Witches, and Wizard and Pooh ... Oh My!

OK, so I only had one witch in my household, but we had a couple tag-along witches during the evening. MacKenzie was an orange-haired witch, with a wand swiped from a broomstick. Zachary was Lord Voldemort, also with a wand swiped from a broomstick. He wanted to get a phoenix feather into his wand, but couldn’t quite figure out how, so went without.

Benjamin finally completed the family tradition of being Pooh, and even had his own “wand” -- a yellow light stick. Unfortunately, since the costume is a size 2-4, it was slightly on the small side...as evident by the slight high-water nature of the pants and exposed wrists. He didn’t seem to care, except when it came time to strip the costume head off his head. Fortunately, that was only a minor inconvenience on the path to candy.

When it was time to head out, two additional witches showed up at our door and joined us on our quest. Michelle, MacKenzie and Hannah were quite the trio. Some adults even commented that they were the Witches of Eastwick.

A few of Zachary’s friends even joined our entourage for a while: an unknown skeleton friend, Sean, Matthew and Zachary. After a while, the others split off to scare trick-or-treaters, and Zachary rejoined us on our candy quest.

At one point in the evening, Benjamin decided to take a break and wait for everyone to catch up. This is when we had a gaggle of eight kids. But, by the end of the evening, he decided his Pooh head was too warm and opted to go headless. I told him that without his costume head on, people wouldn’t know that he’s Pooh Bear. He quickly replied that he wanted everyone to know that he was Benjamin and not really Pooh. What a quick, sharp reply! As always, he enjoyed playing with the multi-colored light-sticks the MP’s were handing out for safety.

Of course, the best part of the evening was returning home to sort through the loot. If you look closely in the other photos, you’ll notice that Benjamin was the only one carrying a pumpkin. Apparently, Zachary and MacKenzie have graduated past that and opted instead to carry pillowcases. Zachary figured he could get more candy that way…and it certainly appeared so when we returned home. (As a result, my officemates will have a steady supply of extra candy in the coming weeks!)

But, the real joy of Halloween is the joy and excitement on the kids’ faces. MacKenzie didn’t even mind that she had to wash her hair three times to get all the orange out before school today (and to make sure she didn’t turn her sheets orange last night!).
