Another Court of Honor
There’s nothing like returning from a TDY, starting the school year and jumping right into extracurricular activities. I returned Monday (Aug. 27) from a week and a half in Moscow, and Zachary & MacKenzie filled me in on their first day of school.
Two days later, Zachary’s Boy Scout troop held its quarterly Court of Honor to recognize achievements and advancements. Zachary was recognized for earning his woodcarving, first aid and space exploration merit badges at Camp Baden-Powell back in June, then received his Second Class advancement along with six other scouts. He’s moving along quite well, and should be able to achieve First Class rank within a year of crossing over into Boy Scouts.
Shortly after the boys were called onto the stage, Benjamin decided he didn’t want to wait until he became a Boy Scout to join the scouts onstage...so he crawled up there to join us. I guess he thought he would be less obtrusive that way.
During the advancement portion of the ceremony, Zachary pinned a miniature Second Class emblem on me, then gave me a kiss. Benjamin didn’t want to be outdone, and insisted on giving me a kiss as well.
After the ceremony, Zachary insisted on visiting someone he hadn’t seen in a while -- his Tiger Cub den leader from 1st grade. He re-met her son, Sean, in one of his classes that day, and they quickly realized they had been in the same den in San Antonio five years ago, with Sean’s mom as the leader. Sean and his family moved here less than a month ago, and they live just a few buildings away from us. Ceci was very surprised to see Zachary when we stopped by for a short visit and to show her how well he’s done with scouting in the interim. It definitely goes to show you how small the Air Force can be at times!

I am so proud of Zachary & his progression in Boy Scouts. Love Ben's idea--at least he wasn't intimiated by getting on the stage. Was Mac your photographer? Good job.
