Driving the Tractor
After his tractor experience last summer, I decided to help prepare Benjamin for this year’s experience in the hopes that he wouldn’t be as apprehensive or scared. It worked! When Uncle Sam came around to take each of the kids on a ride, Benjamin excitedly went first. I didn’t realize it at the time, but he wore the same outfit he did for his last tractor ride...and he remembered! He told me he was wearing his tractor clothes! What a sharp memory he has--his first ride was a quarter of his lifetime earlier!
Benjamin felt so big in that tractor sitting on Uncle Sam’s lap and didn’t hurriedly try to escape from the cab when it was MacKenzie’s turn. He’s definitely grown up in the last year!
MacKenzie was next...only because Zachary wasn’t quick enough out the door (I think he had disappeared inside the house for a few minutes and missed Uncle Sam’s return with Benjamin). Naturally, she equally enjoyed her ride.
Zachary got up every morning while we were in Blackshear, hoping Uncle Sam would bring the tractor around that day. When the third morning arrived, and so did the tractor, he was thrilled. He didn't even seem to mind that Benjamin and MacKenzie went first. As an added bonus, he got to help Uncle Sam fill up the tractor with gas. He was gone so long, we figured they were plowing an entire field. Only later did we discover that after filling the tank they returned to Uncle Sam’s house and Zachary had entered the world of video games with my cousin Sam. I suppose both activities were equally as fun.
I’m sure all three kids hope to continue what’s become an annual tradition of riding the tractor with Uncle Sam. I think Uncle Sam enjoys it as well.
