Gradual update #29 -- Blue & Gold

Springtime was a busy time for scouting. In February, Zachary’s Cub Scout Pack hosted its annual Blue & Gold Banquet honoring the boys and their scouting achievements thus far in the year. They also moved up to the next level of scouting…for Zachary, that meant he became a Webelos II (second and final year of Webelos). At the banquet this year, the scouts were asked to make their own cake and bring it in for dessert. Some of the creations were absolutely stunning and very creative. Zachary opted for the simple, yet healthy strawberry-topped pound cake. It was the one cake that people searched out to ask if they could have a slice (and he graciously obliged!).When it was time for his den’s recognition and advancement, he didn’t seem too thrilled, although I’m not quite sure why. He sure can cut his eyes at me when he’s unhappy about something. I think the banquet and ceremony were going a bit long, and he was getting tired of being there. The “paint” (aka lotion with various food coloring added) symbolized his advancement to Webelos II.

As you can see, once the ceremony was over, he made a beeline to the restroom to wash off his face. It’s hard to believe that he’ll be a Boy Scout at this time next year! Also of note, he grew nearly an inch during the summer, so is much taller now than in the photo below!
